This is not so much of a question than a solution to a problem many new owners of the Nokia E72 will have especially if they have upgraded from the Nokia E71 which was very easy to set up.I understand this fix works with the E75 as well. Its the symbian operating system so the solution is kinda of long bear with me.

      0.   Start email setup wizard from home screen, or by going menu => help => phone setup => setup e-mail

  1. Phone will ask your email address, input something like youraccount@gmail.comX (remember the X in the end, otherwise you won’t be able to use MfE – Mail For Exchange for Gmail)
  2. Select “corporate” as the type of email (for the e72 you may not see corporate so just go ahead and choose Mail for exchange
  3. You will be asked for sync details. Ensure that under email address the x is at the end of it. Under username put email address – yourname@gmail.com (note:don’t put the x at the end this time).
  4. And leave the domain heading blank. Click Next
  5. The Mail for exchange server is m.google.com. Click Next
  6. (The phone should set up everything else for you as opposed to the E71 where you had to enter more info, if you are prompted however you can go to the setup instructions at Google Mobile Support Forum for the missing details)
  7. Select Calendar (and Contacts if you want). Click next.
  8. Decide how you want to sync your data. Click next. And your almost done.
  9. Enter your password and MfE will configure your account
  10. After setting up the account the sync will fail due to MfE trying to sync email from google’s servers which is not supported by Google for Symbian devices, so some changes to the settings are needed:
  11. Go to Menu => Email => Settings => Mail for Exchange => Mailbox and check (and edit) your Email address, username and password.
  12. Then go to Menu => Email => Settings => Mail for Exchange => What to sync => disable email sync. You can also select the sync period and schedule from the “When to sync” menu.
  13. After this go to Menu => Email => Settings => personal information management => Applications => enable calendar sync, disable to-do sync. Contacts sync should work, so it can be enabled.
  14. After this you’re ready to rock & roll, so go to the main view of the email application and select options => synchronize and your calendar / contacts data should be synchronized.
  15. If you have any issues you can also edit Adv mailbox settings within the mailbox tab.

And thats it. Syncing from web to phone is almost instant so it makes for organizing that much sweeter.

Enabling the alarm for an event via Google calendar

Unfortunately, the E72 has no default setting for an alarm for calendar events sync from Google calendar to the mobile. It can be done however by editing your calendar entry on Google calendar, adding a reminder (choose pop up instead of email) choose the time (Google calendar gives you much more control as to when you would want the reminder to happen) and when your event syncs with your phone you will see that the alarm for the event is enabled to the time that you set online.
Hope that’s helpful.

    Hi,

It’s working perfectly. Is it possible to add another calendar located on the same google account?

  • Henrikas

Doesn’t work with your method, neither without “x”.
    Any other ideas what’s wrong?
Nokia E72 surely, MFE, only calendar, no email. Seems i did everything correct.

    Thanks
    Henry
